Bike Ride 11 August 2013

Indooroopilly River Loop

Date:     Sunday August 11
Time:     9.00 am to 11.00 am
Meeting time: 8.45 am  Rig up time for 9 am departure
Meeting place: Meet in Railway Avenue, southern end adjacent to Indooroopilly Railway Station (unrestricted on-street parking on weekends)

The route follows a section of the bicycle route as shown on Local Travel Map 5, Brisbane South-West. The roads have very light car traffic but the route is very popular with cyclists. The section along the Brisbane Corso is where many enthusiast cyclists go flat out so don’t be surprised if you are overtaken by a small peloton. The terrain is pretty flat with just a couple of very minor hills. Much of the route is right alongside the river. On the return at Graceville we will follow along the cycle way/road beside Oxley Creek. After crossing Oxley Road at the pedestrian crossing, we will cycle past some of Brisbane’s grand old homes on the way back to Indooroopilly.

Cross the Brisbane River using the Albert Bridge (cycle and pedestrian only), follow the river through Chelmer, Graceville, Tennyson, Yeerongpilly, Yeronga and Fairfield. Return along the same route except for a minor detour into Ormuz Road, Oriel Road and Orlando Road (many of the streets and roads in Yeronga start with ”o”) to miss a couple of small hills. Then continue along river loop to Bart St Clair Oval, Graceville and then follow cycle path to exit to Plumer Street, Sherwood, follow to Oxley Road, cross Oxley Road at pedestrian crossing and then continue along Junction Street, right into Kitchener Street, left into Long Street West and follow the River

Loop back to Indooroopilly for coffee.
