Expectations Exceeded!!!

Garth reports on the Parkinson's Pedallers ride on 12 May 2013

Expectations exceeded and then some! The Parkinson’s Pedallers ride on the 12th May coincided with Mothers’ Day. The concept was to select a ride a little shorter than usual and along a bicycle path and generally flat. This would then allow for an early finish to enable time for all to take part in their Mothers’ Day activities.

The Bulimba cycle way from the Murarrie Recreational Ground, through the Minnippi Parklands to the Old Cleveland Road exit and return was chosen. There was one shortcoming in that there was no bike-friendly coffee shop along the way. I suggested to Alan James that we could bring a snack (museli bar or banana perhaps) and we could stop at Minnippi on the way back. Alan suggested that he and Dianne could bring a camping stove and boil the billy.

The ride started in overcast but dry weather and then changed to fine mist and on to very cool drizzle which could dampen enthusiasm. However the best was yet to come. Dianne had set up a catering establishment in one of the shelters at Minnippi. We were treated to homemade lemon tarts, brownies and coffee all laid out on a table cloth. Dianne clearly aims high; she had intended to be offering cappuccinos however a small fire in the kitchen prevented that. A table cloth from Dianne’s grandmother became a victim of the fire. Then as we finished our treats the sun came out and the ducks left the lake to check us out.

Many thanks to Dianne for her splendid efforts. Expectations exceeded!
